In Alborada school, we know how important it is to have a second language. And so we believe that learning English is very important, especially from a young age. That being said, we offer an immersive learning environment by including our English Assistants in our daily routine. They help teach the children in a natural and fun way using games and other activities suitable for the progressive levels from infants level all the way through to Bachillerato.
In our bilingual programme we offer different activities and complementary services, some of these include:
Our English Assistants use active learning methods both in and out of the classroom, working with the students individually as well as in small groups to offer a more personalized lesson where the student is given the opportunity to interact more as well as receive more one on one attention from the teacher.
We don’t only learn English in the English curriculum, we also have complementary lessons two or three times a week dedicated to the preparation of international English exams as well as different projects or activities, where the children get to practise the English language in a fun and more relaxed environment.
We prepare our students for the official international English exams of levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 from Primary until Bachillerato.
In order to provide even more immersion into the English language, the school organizes a Poetry Competition once a year where the poems are learnt in the classroom, the students then compete within the class to find the best two, who then go on to compete against the other classes of their age.
We also offer an after school activity with Kids&Us.
Our learning method is based on taking advantage of the natural capacity that young children have to learn a new language. Kids&Us grows with the children and at each stage the children are taught using the materials that correspond with their communicative needs until they master the use of the English language. In Year 4 we love reading! Therefore, every Thursday we have an awesome Reading Workshop. This workshop is always divided in three different activities, “READ TO ME”, “VISUAL READING” and “POPCORN READING”.
Firstly, in READ TO ME we use the website and application “Epic – Book for kids”. There we can find thousands of books to read. For this specific activity we use the “read to me” functionality, which reads us (no pun intended) the book that we choose. This way we can listen to the words, and we learn how to say them.

Secondly, in VISUAL READING we have to read a short text and analyze it using our five senses. Then, we have to draw everything that we have “seen”.

Finally in POPCORN READING all the members of the group have the same book. One person starts reading and when he or she reaches a stop, they have to say “popcorn” and say the name of another member of the group to continue with the reading.

Since we started doing this workshop, all the students are very eager for Thursdays to arrive, as it is a day in which they can relax and enjoy by doing something that we are losing in this day and age: the love for reading
